Juventus Sack Allegri Following Coppa Italia Victory

With two matches to go before the end of the season, Juventus have decided to dismiss Massimiliano Allegri due to the events after the Coppa Italia final. The Bianconeri were widely expected to move on from him in the summer. They have nothing more on the line. They clinched a top-five finish and thus a Champions League berth in the most recent round.

As Sky and multiple sources report, the Tuscan gaffer led practice on Friday morning. He returned to the Continassa HQ later in the afternoon for a meeting with the hierarchy, which relayed the decision.

In their official statement, Juventus deemed the behavior by Allegri incompatible with the team’s values. On top of getting a red card for a blatant protest against the referee, which led to a two-game ban, the boss kicked some photographic equipment and berated TuttoSport director Guido Vaciago in the post-game. The two eventually met and posted a joint statement saying they hashed things out.

The Bianconeri, which were second for a long chunk of the campaign, have won just four games since February, two of which in the Coppa Italia. They have been leapfrogged and distanced by Milan and are neck and neck with Bologna and Atalanta in the standings.

Juventus finished fourth and seventh, due to a penalization, in the two recent campaigns with Allegri at the helm. U-19 coach and club icon Paolo Montero will serve as the caretaker manager against Bologna and Monza, Goal‘s Romeo Agresti informs.
